Petersburg Fire District Board

The Petersburg Fire District Board of Directors plays a crucial role in overseeing the operations and strategic direction of the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department. Comprised of elected or appointed community members, the board is responsible for ensuring that the fire department meets its mission of protecting life and property in the district. The board’s primary purpose is to provide governance, set policies, and make decisions that affect the fire department’s funding, equipment procurement, staffing, and overall preparedness. By doing so, the board ensures that the department operates efficiently and effectively, addressing both current and future needs.

The board of directors also functions as a liaison between the fire department and the community, maintaining transparency and accountability in all its actions. They oversee the allocation of funds, approve budgets, and ensure that financial resources are used wisely to support the department’s operational needs, including training, equipment maintenance, and facility upgrades. Additionally, the board is involved in long-term planning, identifying potential risks and opportunities to enhance the department’s capabilities. By guiding the fire department’s strategic priorities, the Petersburg Fire District Board of Directors plays an essential role in maintaining a high level of emergency services for the community.

The Petersburgh Fire District No. 1 holds monthly board meetings on the first Tuesday. Three of the commissioners are appointed by the Boone County Judge Executive. Two commissioners are voted in by the fire department, and two of the commissioners are elected by the district’s property owners. The term of the commissioners is five years.
